The steel-string acoustic guitar is used in many styles, such as pop, rock, jazz and country. Steel strings give a bright, carrying sound that is clearly different from the soft nylon sound of the classical guitar.
It can be played with a plectrum or with the fingers, and it works just as well accompanying a singer as it does as a solo instrument.
It differs from the classical guitar in its build, strings and sound, so it is a good idea to ask the teacher for help when choosing a first instrument.
