The classical guitar is played with the fingers on nylon strings, which gives it a soft, round sound. Like the piano, the guitar is an independent instrument: melody, bass and harmony sound at the same time, so a guitarist can play on their own.
The repertoire ranges from Renaissance lute music to the Spanish tradition and contemporary music. Avonia also has a guitar orchestra, where students can play in a large ensemble.
Children can start at the age of 4, but the most common starting age is 7 to 12. The instrument is chosen to suit the player's size, and the teacher's advice is important when buying one. In addition to the guitar, you will need a footstool. For younger players, we recommend that parents take part in lessons and in practice at home.
