In music perception studies (music theory), known in Finnish as muha, students practise understanding the music they hear, play and read. Learning together and enjoying it are at the heart of the studies.
Lessons develop music reading skills, creativity and an understanding of different styles. Topics include music fundamentals, creative musicianship, and history and styles. Ways of working include listening, writing down what you hear, playing, rhythm exercises and singing together.
Basic-level groups are divided by age: basic level A (ages 9 to 11), B (12 to 14) and C (15 and over). Students who have completed basic studies can continue in advanced groups, and there is entrance exam preparation for students planning further studies in music.
